Out of an abundance of caution, and for the protection of our community against COVID-19 (also referred to as the coronavirus), the Nampa Public Library and Nampa Senior Center will be closed March 16-March 31, 2020. Nampa Mayor Debbie Kling shared, “While these closures may be an inconvenience for some, they are for the protection of all in our community.”
NAMPA PUBLIC LIBRARY: For the safety of the staff and community, the Nampa Public Library will be closed March 16-31, 2020. As a public facility providing services to all demographics, including vulnerable populations, the Library takes the health of the community seriously. This decision was not made lightly. Emails and phone calls will still be answered during this time. Books can be returned through the outside book drop, or checkout times can be extended. The Library staff will be looking at ways to continue serving the public during this closure.
Patrons are encouraged to access online resources to continue reading, listening or watching films during the closure. These e-resources can be found at nampalibrary.org/elibrary and available 24/7. The Nampa Library apologizes for the inconvenience and appreciates the understanding of its patrons, and will keep the community informed of what the Library is doing via their website and social media channels.
NAMPA SENIOR CENTER: The City of Nampa, with approval from the Nampa Council on Aging, will cancel on site meal service, senior classes, programs and events held at the Nampa Senior Center beginning Monday, March 16 and will be in effect until March 31. Meals-to-go will be available through a curbside service beginning March 16.
Instructions for Curbside Meals: Please call (208) 467-7266 beginning at 7 a.m. March 16 to order (please call by 9:30 a.m.). If the line is busy, please keep trying. Meals will be available for pickup Monday-Friday from 11:30am- 12:30pm for a suggested donation of $5 for those 60 and over, and a $6 charge for under 60.
NAMPA REC CENTER: With the guidance and recommendations of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and Southwest District Health, the Nampa Rec Center has made the determination to cancel all senior classes and senior programs at the Nampa Rec Center effective immediately through March 31, 2020. Current senior classes that will be cancelled include:
ADDITIONAL SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: For the safety of our patrons, the Nampa Recreation Center has implemented several preventative steps and CDC recommendations to prevent illness associated with COVID-19. Rapidly evolving information will guide our decisions moving forward on what services will be provided at the Nampa Recreation Center. At this time, we have implemented the following processes:
NAMPA CITY COUNCIL: While we encourage the participation of citizens in local government, in an effort to ensure the safety of those who will be attending the Nampa City Council meeting on March 16, 2020, we want to remind citizens of alternative means of participation:
The City of Nampa is closely monitoring the quickly changing status of COVID-19 in our area. Additional cancellations may be needed if recommended by local and state agencies, and we will communicate changes as quickly as possible.
We apologize for the inconvenience and thank the community for understanding this precautionary measure. Our sincere intention is to protect the safety and well-being of all residents, and especially our senior population who are at increased risk for COVID-19, according to the CDC. Mayor Kling said, “We love our seniors and community, and want to do whatever we can to limit the exposure. Let’s do our part as a community to protect each other and our senior population.”
