The City of Nampa Finance Department has received the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for the 37th consecutive time. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting.
The Award of Financial Reporting Achievement for Fiscal Year 2017 was given to the City’s Finance Department, headed by Finance Director Vikki Chandler and Michelle Camper, Assistant Director of Finance. Nampa is one of only seven cities in the State of Idaho to receive the award.
The Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) established the certificate in 1945 to encourage and assist state and local governments to go beyond the minimum requirements of generally accepted accounting principles to prepare comprehensive annual financial reports (CAFR) that demonstrate the spirit of transparency and full disclosure and then to recognize individual governments which succeed in achieving that goal, according to the organization’s website.
The annual award is judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story.
Reports submitted to the CAFR program are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and the GFOA Special Review Committee (SRC), which comprises individuals with expertise in public sector financial reporting and includes financial statement preparers, independent auditors, academics and other finance professionals.
