The City of Nampa is committed to openness and transparency in all we do. As part of this commitment, our legal counsel has provided a statement in response a recent Idaho Press article:
The executive session held by Nampa City Council on September 17th was in accordance with the stated purpose under Idaho Code 74-206(1)(c). Although part of the executive session was spent discussing real property that is owned by public agencies (NDC and the City), the discussion as a whole included important information about acquiring an interest in real property not owned by a public agency. The confidential pieces of information for which the executive session was needed were integral to the discussion of properties and the options available for the City of Nampa. In order for City Council to fully understand the options, there needed to be a discussion that included confidential topics that are not yet public, but are directly related to the discussion of the properties at issue. Therefore, the executive session was appropriate and necessary, and there were no violations to be remedied. No actions or votes related to that discussion were taken during or after the executive session, and no action will be taken as a result of that discussion unless and until action may be taken in accordance with Idaho Code.
