Nampa Chip Sealing Postponed Until June 7 -
(Nampa, June 1, 2010) Due to cool temperatures and predictions of scattered showers every day this week, the City of Nampa Street Division has postponed chip sealing streets until Monday, June 7, 2010.

The street department website will update the progress of the work, along with any delays that are experienced. To access this site go to www.cityofnampa.us , place the arrow on Departments, then Public Works, and click on Streets in the dropdown menu.

Chip sealing is a common, cost effective, pavement maintenance practice that extends pavement life and provides a good driving surface. Chip seal is about one-fourth to one-fifth the cost of a conventional asphalt overlay.

Nampa Composting Program Expanded -
(Nampa, May 28, 2010) The City of Nampa Parks Department is expanding its composting program and will begin accepting grass clippings for compost on Tuesday, June 1, 2010. The grass must not be in bags and must be free of all debris including trash and tree branches.

Nampa residents may drop off the grass clippings at a designated compost area at the Kohler Lawn Cemetery located at 76 6th Street North. Drivers should turn north on Weamer Lane off of 6th Street North which leads directly to the fenced compost area. The hours for drop off are Monday through Friday, 8:30am-4:30pm. The compost area is closed weekends and holidays, and can be closed occasionally due to weather conditions.

The following is the future schedule for items the city will be accepting for composting:

Grass Clippings April 1 – October 1
Leaves October 1 – December 15
Christmas Trees January 2 – January 15

The City accepted grass and leaves several years ago but discontinued that portion of the composting program because of the amount of trash and yard debris received.

Intersection of Happy Valley Road & Greenhurst Road remains closed to through traffic while crews install a new round-a-bout at the intersection. Crews will be grading the road base, installing brick pavers, installing sign bases in the island and working on seepage beds. Drivers should give themselves extra time in this area and pay close attention to the detour signs. Signs directing drivers to local businesses should also be noted. Estimated completion: June 30.

12th Avenue South between Front Street and 1st Street South will be closed to through traffic every Saturday from 6:30am to 1:00pm starting April 24 through October 30 for the Nampa Farmer’s Market.

I-84 and 11th Ave Bridge The Idaho Transportation Department will detour I-84 traffic beginning at 10 p.m. tonight through tomorrow (Saturday) morning at 7 a.m. for demolition of the 11th Avenue Bridge over I-84 in Nampa. Crews will take down the bridge overnight, requiring closure of all I-84 lanes between the Garrity Road and Franklin Boulevard interchanges. Flaggers will direct interstate traffic to the following detours:
• For westbound motorists: exit the interstate at Garrity interchange, travel south on Garrity Boulevard, to the Franklin/Garrity/11th Avenue intersection then north on Franklin to the interchange to re-enter the interstate.
• For eastbound motorists: exit the interstate at the Franklin interchange and use the same detour route in the opposite direction.
Nighttime lane restrictions will also be in place Saturday, May 15 through Tuesday, May 18 as crews focus on construction and equipment mobilization, shoulder work, guardrail installation, and freeway striping. One east- and westbound lane will be closed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. Saturday through Monday. On Tuesday night, the eastbound left lane will be closed but all westbound lanes will remain open.

I-84 and Garrity Boulevard Idaho Transportation Department project: I-84 is reduced to one lane in each direction most nights, between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., excluding weekends, between the Franklin Interchange and Robinson Road overpass while crews work along the shoulders
I-84 westbound off-ramp at the Garrity Interchange has been reduced to one lane. This configuration is expected to last the next few months while crews prepare to shift traffic to the median.

I-84 westbound has been reduced to two lanes between the Robinson Road Overpass and Garrity Interchange. This configuration is expected to last the next few months while crews prepare to shift traffic to the median.

I-84 eastbound has been shifted to the south and reduced to two lanes near the Garrity Interchange eastbound on-ramp. The dedicated lane on the eastbound on-ramp is closed so motorist traveling on Garrity Boulevard have to merge into eastbound through traffic. This configuration will last several months allowing crews to widen and pave in the median, of the interstate prior to building the bridge.
Garrity Boulevard is restricted to one lane northbound and two lanes southbound during the day. All three lanes are located inside the bridge piers beneath the Garrity Interchange. The speed limit is 35 mph on Garrity Boulevard.

Garrity Boulevard is reduced to one lane in each direction between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m., excluding weekends, while crews work on the bridge deck.
For more information on this project please go to itd.idaho.gov/projects/d3.

**Note: This new overnight Garrity Boulevard configuration will be in effect when the Eagles concert is getting out. In order to help get concert goers to the freeway, ITD will be flagging the intersections at the interchange and will open both lanes up to southbound traffic (using flaggers) if needed. Nampa Police will be increasing their patrols in the construction zones between Franklin and Garrity due to a grant from the Office of Highway Safety. ***
