The City of Nampa will begin rebuilding 2nd and 3rd Streets South from 12th Avenue to 16th Avenue South on Tuesday, March 27. The contractor, Idaho Materials and Construction, will begin by removing the existing pavement on the north side of both 2nd and 3rd Streets South. Traffic will be diverted to the south sides of 2nd and 3rd Streets South while the north lanes are completed. Traffic will then shift to the north lanes while the south side is rebuilt. One lane of traffic will remain open on 2nd and 3rd Streets South throughout construction.
The rebuild is needed to improve the severely deteriorated pavement. Sidewalk corners will also be improved to fit Downtown Historic Streetscape Standards and to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Additionally, several underground utilities will be upgraded.
The $2.8 million project is scheduled to be complete in late August.
Access to business will remain open during all phases of construction and the city has arranged for two hours of free parking for customers in the Stampede Lot at 1218 2nd St. S. Customers can also park for one hour free in the Downtown Garage adjacent to the Nampa Library.
Downtown Nampa will run a weekly promotional campaign, called a Cash Mob, during construction to encourage customers to shop downtown. Customers who shop during the Cash Mob will be eligible to win gift cards for any merchant downtown by posting pictures of themselves or their purchases on the Downtown Nampa Facebook page. Specific business types will be promoted each week. Go to the Downtown Nampa Facebook page to learn more and sign up for the Cash Mob.
The City will continue to provide updates about the project at http://cityofnampa.us/projects/downtown. If you have questions, please call 208-465-2221 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
