Motorists can begin using the newly completed intersection of 11th Avenue North and Industrial Road Tuesday, March 20 by late afternoon. North Sugar Street will also be reopened.
The project reconstructed:
The project also reconstructed railroad crossing, installed pedestrian ramps, filled in sections of missing sidewalk and widened roadway shoulders to accommodate bicycle lanes.
The project took nearly nine months to complete due to unforeseen issues including trouble boring under the railroad tracks, severely deteriorated existing infrastructure and more than anticipated rock under the road surface.
The cost of the project was originally estimated at $2 million but increased by nearly $300,000 due to unanticipated costs related to the railroad crossing, rock excavation and pipe boring for utilities. The city was able to offset the extra cost through a $200,000 railroad safety grant through ITD Rail Safety Program.
