The city of Nampa is soliciting applications for the 2017 Program Year of Community Development Block Grant Funds. The city is sponsoring a Community Development Block Grant Application Workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. on May 9, at the Nampa City Council Chambers, 411 3rd St. S. The application process will be discussed at this workshop. Anyone unable to attend the workshop can download the application guidelines from the city of Nampa’s website at: http://id-nampa2.civicplus.com/DocumentCenter/View/6110. Applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2017.Every year the city of Nampa receives an entitlement grant from the Department of Housing and Urban Development to use for the benefit of low and moderate-income residents of the community. The city then reaches out to the community to solicit applications for projects that directly benefit low and moderate-income residents in the city and/or will help to eliminate slum and blight to garner the best and most efficient use of this money, Assistant Economic Development Director, Robin Collins said.Projects in housing, community development, economic development and public services are all eligible to apply. HUD guidelines state that 51 percent of the project’s beneficiaries need to be documented low and moderate-income clients. Project beneficiaries need to be residents of the city of Nampa, and they need to be considered a priority in the City’s Consolidated Plan for Housing and Community Development.Projects funded in the past have included the Community Family Shelter, Meals on Wheels, crosswalk improvements, playground equipment, ADA improvements, emergency housing repair loans, Family Justice Center and Senior Transportation.Like most federal funding sources, there is a strict formula on how this money can be allocated. Questions should be directed to Robin Collins in the Economic/Community Development Department at 468-5416, email@example.com.
