A 45-foot blue spruce Christmas tree for Downtown Nampa arrived at Horse Mural Park today and will be decorated Thursday and Friday in preparation for the Downtown Nampa Christmas Tree Lighting slated for 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26.

Nampan Karel Knigge donated the tree and she plans to attend the tree lighting ceremony. Knigge said her son suggested it after he heard the city was looking for a blue spruce tree to erect in Downtown Nampa at the intersection of 1st Street and 12th Avenue.

With assistance from the Nampa parks and streets staff, Qualitree cut down the tree today on Burke Lane and transported it down Highway 45 to Horse Mural Park. Qualitree donates time to Nampa for this effort.

DreamWeaver Musical Theatre will perform songs from the holiday production, Yes Virginia, The Musical during the event and will actually start singing at 5 p.m.

Downtown Nampa sponsored carriage rides will be available from 3 to 6 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis.

The annual celebration is planned in cooperation with the Downtown Nampa Association and the Small Business Saturday Shop Local campaign to help draw Thanksgiving weekend shoppers to the Downtown area.  Parking in the Downtown Garage will be free Friday and Saturday.
