6th Street North Project Construction Update: Phase 3 nearing completion

The city of Nampa will finish paving Phase 3 of the 6th Street North Project and have the roadway partially reopened between 1st Avenue North and 7th Avenue North by Tuesday, Oct. 4.

The contractor will pave the roadway from the railroad tracks in front of Robertson Supply west of 4th Avenue North through 5th Avenue North on Friday, Sept.30. Paving between 1st Avenue North and 3rd Avenue North will be completed Monday, Oct. 3. Other activities required to complete Phase 3 that will occur the week of Oct. 3 (after paving is complete) include:

  • Concrete work along the roadway including pedestrian ramps and sidewalks
  • Completion of manholes within the roadway
  • Landscape restoration
  • Pavement markings and striping installation

Work occurring after Oct. 3 will be performed outside of lanes of traffic to minimize impacts to motorists. The speed limit between 1st Avenue North and 7th Avenue North will remain at 15 mph after the roadway is partially reopened.

“We are excited at the progress being made and ask motorists and residents to use caution and watch for construction equipment and personnel as we move into the next phase of the project. Safety of our residents and construction crews is our number one priority.” said Jeff Barnes, city’s staff engineer and project manager.

Phase 2 closure & detour begins next week

The city of Nampa will close 6th Street North between 7th Avenue North and 11th Avenue North on Tuesday, Oct. 4, to rehabilitate the road and water line. Roadway work will be completed in sections and the associated detour routes will be adjusted accordingly as sections are completed to accommodate traffic. All work will be completed by mid-November.

Traffic will be detoured from 7th Avenue North to 1st Street North to 10th Avenue North to 4th Street North during the closure. The detour will be clearly marked with signage and two-way traffic will be maintained on streets adjacent to the closure. Access to local businesses, residents and churches will be maintained. A map is attached.

The city is constructing the project in phases and is doing its best to minimize inconvenience to the public as it improves aging infrastructure and reconstructs the roadway, Barnes said.
