The City of Nampa and the Idaho Transportation Department are partnering to develop safety improvements along 12th Avenue between 7th Street South and Lake Lowell Avenue. Needed improvements were determined through a 2015-2016 safety study that included public input and best practices. The results of the safety study will start to be implemented during the summer of 2017. The first project will install a median on 12th Avenue South between Sheridan and Lincoln Streets. The median will only allow vehicles to make a right-in and a right-out at Sherman Avenue. Restricting vehicle turn movements will improve safety at this dangerous intersection by reducing conflict points.
To minimize impact the median will likely be installed at the same time as the Idaho Transportation Department micro-surfacing project and work will occur at night. Travel lanes will remain open.
Construction is expected to start mid-summer and barring unforeseen circumstances should be complete by the end of September.
This is a joint project between the City of Nampa and the Idaho Transportation Department. The City of Nampa will contribute $110,000 out of the Streets fund.
